State-run Xinhua News Agency unveiled on Monday an updated version of the Chinese flagship news app. The launching marks as a major advancement in the organization's efforts to integrate traditional with new media.

Utilizing Xinhua's global news network, the app targets to release over a thousand pieces of news every day--may it be in the form of articles, stories, photos, videos as well as charts. The news will cover key events that happen in China and abroad.

Through the upgraded news app, users now also have access to information services based on geographical position recognition. They can also communicate and interact with the other over-3,000 Xinhua correspondents across the globe.

China's flagship app is compatible with the Apple Watch and with other high-tech gadgets.

In total, the new Xinhua app features 118 improvements, in the hope of making it the country's leading online news portal. This is according to Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao.

At the Xinhua headquarters in Beijing, Cai also noted that the launching of the updated news app is a vital step in the news agency's aim to improve its online presence.

Apart from being a news hub, the app also serves as a platform by which nationwide Party and government agencies can post press releases and service information.

Cai also furthered that Xinhua is stepping up its efforts to make the app an "aircraft carrier," which plays a dominant role in the arena of new media.

The upgraded news app is now more user-friendly and runs more compatibly with mobile gadgets.
