On further investigation, five rolled marijuana cigarettes were found in the possession of Ross. The "Super High" rapper, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, was taken to the Fayette County jail for further proceedings.

A bond amount is yet to be set by the court, after which Ross will go before a judge, CNN reported. His representative has not yet commented on the matter.

This is not the first time that Ross is locked behind bars for marijuana related charges. The rapper had a similar stint before, when he was arrested just after his performance at Greensboro's Superjam Music festival in June, 2014.

The rapper was taken into custody for skipping a court appearance for a previous misdemeanour marijuana charge. He was later released after filing $1,000 bail. Back in March 2006, he  was arrested in Shreveport for similar charges after a strong odour of weed was detected from his hotel room.

The rapper is also facing a slew of lawsuits. In the most recent one,  hip-hop photographer Armen Djerrahian has sued the rapper for for using one of his unuauthorised photos of music mogul, Jay Z, taken in 2003, without ever contacting him or crediting him for the same, Hot New Hip Hop reported.

Ross, the founder of the Maybach Music Group, is best known among music lovers for his 2006 hit single "Hustlin."
