While many were excited about Android M supporting fingerprint scanners, tech giant Microsoft is taking one step further by ditching fingerprint scanners and going straight to a far more secure biometric authentication method and incorporates iris scanners into the upcoming Lumia 940 XL.

Two Lumia devices are expected to be launched before the year ends, Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL. In May, Microsoft announced that it is working on two devices that will succeed the current flagship Lumia 930. These devices were codenamed "Talkman" and "Cityman" with speculations claiming that the former is the Lumia 940 and the latter is the Lumia 940 XL.

According to Tech Times, both devices are expected to run on Windows Phone 10 operating system.

One of the most common complaints about the Lumia line of smartphones is its lack of microSD support for storage expansion. Microsoft is rumored to have this issue solved with the upcoming Lumia devices.

According International Business Times, the Lumia 940 will have a 5.2-inch display, while the Lumia 940 XL will have a bigger 5.7-inch display. Both will have screen resolution of up to 2,560 x 1,440. Both are expected to have an upgraded camera with rumors claiming it to be around 24-megapixel.

The Lumia 940 XL is rumored to have a metallic chassis and will have the octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm with integrated Adreno 430 GPU. It will have 32 GB of storage space which can be expanded via the microSD slot and 3 GB of RAM.

On the other hand, the Lumia 940 will have an aluminum chassis with polycarbonate back. It will have a Snapdragon 808 processor and an upgraded 3,000 mAh battery.

Microsoft has yet to release an official specs list for the two devices. Despite Microsoft's total silence about the existence of the devices, speculations are claiming that it will unveil it before the end of 2015.
