Activision recently announced that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 console. It originally announced that the two consoles will not be part of the initial launch lineup when the game was announced in April.
Activision's original press release when it announced that game reads, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been designed to harness the full potential of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC."
However, Activision changed its stance and recently said, "We know that there are still some fans that haven't made the transition to the new console hardware."
Despite inclusion of older generation consoles, Activision decided not to include Nintendo's Wii U as part of the release lineup. In 2014, the Wii U was also snubbed when "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" was released.
According to Polygon, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be handled by Mercenary Technologies and Beenox.
Many tech analysts were a bit skeptical about the decision to release the game on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation. Some pointed the consoles hardware limitation might have irreversible effect on the game's overall performance.
According to Forbes, the "Call of Duty" series has not made huge technical leap in terms of hard ware requirements. This means that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will have no problem in terms of hardware compatibility with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" is set to be released on Nov. 6. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC version of the game is developed by Treyarch.
