Led by reigning Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors managed to win the 2015 NBA Championship game despite lack of experience beating the Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James on June 16, Tuesday.
With the 105-97 victory, the Golden State Warriors became the first team to win an NBA Champion title behind a roster without any previous experience playing in the NBA Finals since the Chicago Bulls in 1991.
Also, since the Los Angeles Lakers player Pat Riley in 1982, Steve Kerr became the first rookie coach to win an NBA title. According to Kerr, each NBA season is different.
"A lot is based on matchups and injuries and maybe a little good fortune," Kerr told reporters, as Reuters quoted him as saying. "We had good fortune with our health most of the year, and that was big."
Another record was made by Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala, who became the first player to garner the honor as the MVP of the NBA Finals without starting each game. Iguodala remained in a reserve role until he was substituted into the starting lineup for center Andrew Bogut during the Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
"This has been a long ride," Iguodala said, as ESPN quoted him as saying. "It's been a great season."
Iguodala and Curry also repeated having the NBA Finals MVP sharing a team with the regular-season MVP, which also happened in 1980 when a Los Angeles Lakers had regular-season MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the NBA Finals MVP Magic Johnson.
