Observers say Tim Tebow may have surged ahead of Matt Barkley in the race for the Philadelphia Eagles third string quarterback spot with his impressive showing in minicamp on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder Tebow showcased both his grasp of offense and speed and agility to spin away from defenders.

Kelly also acknowledged that the 6-foot-3, 235-pounder Tebow has really progressed with throwing the ball from what he exhibited during OTA practices.

On Monday, Kelly also praised Tebow for his ability to pick up the Eagles' complicated offensive scheme.

The Eagles coach added that Tebow shows improvement each week and that he's excited to where it will take him as the team moves forward.

It is no secret that the Eagles may soon trade or release either Tebow or Barkley, who with starter Sam Bradford and backup Mark Sanchez, are the four quarterbacks in the roster.

Observers say Eagles coach Chip Kelly is unlikely to keep four quarterbacks in the team.

Critics note that Tebow's throwing mechanics require extensive improvement.

Experts say Tebow, who signed a one year deal worth less than $1 million last April, adds more value to the roster than Barkley, a Chip Kelly draft pick, who is a more accurate thrower but isn't nearly as powerful and mobile as Tebow.

On the other hand, Barkley exhibited lack of confidence last season by throwing only a single pass despite Nick Foles being out half the year due to injury.

Barkley was placed on the trading block this winter, but Kelly wants to give him a shot at the job.

Meanwhile, Bradford said  he should be ready for the start of training camp on August 2 unless something went horribly wrong with his left knee, which he is rehabbing for a torn ACL.

Sanchez was signed for $5.5 million guaranteed in the offseason and is highly expected to be retained as main backup.
