According to press release and synopsis (via SpoilerTV) for  "True Detective" Season 2, the show opens with a murder of a California-based politician. The murder is suspected to have links with a businessman and a criminal portrayed by Vince Vaughn. The three detectives belonging to different jurisdictions are recruited for the investigation of the murder case. The murder apparently takes place just before a lucrative land scheme is about to be finalized.

Fans can expect to see some drama in Pizzolatto's second season of crime drama as the four leading characters have some personal demons to fight. Colin Farrell's Ray Velcoro is described as "troubled detective" in the press release. His loyalty to the police department and the mobster who owns him is tested time and again. Rachel McAdam's Ani is a detective with inflexible ethics. This leads to several disagreements and conflicts with the system and the people she works with. Taylor Kitsch is portraying the role of a war veteran with tormenting past and dealing with false accusations of a scandal that never happened.

As for Vince Vaughn's Frank Seymon, he is a career criminal at the verge of bankruptcy. To save his estate he plans a move into legitimate industry. However, the murder of his associate changes everything. Kelly Reilly, Christopher James Baker, Blake Churchman, Afemo Omilami, Chris Kerson are some of the additional cast members among others.
