James Horner has died in a plane crash. Horner was an experienced pilot, was flying one of his small aircrafts when it crashed.

According to reports, two-time Oscar-winning composer died while piloting his Tucano turboprop aircraft on June 22, at the age of 61. He was the only person aboard when aircraft crashed in the Los Padres National Forest in southern California.

According to Hollywood Reporter, his assistant Sylvia Patrycja confirmed in a post on Facebook that Horner was on the plane and died during the crash.

"A great tragedy has struck my family today, and I will not be around for a while. I would like some privacy and time to heal. We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road. Love Sylvia," wrote Patrycja.

According to ET Online, Horner's attorney Jay Cooper told NBC L.A. that Horner was a trained pilot and owned five aircraft.  The crash took place in the neighborhood of the community of Ventucopa, off Route 33 between Ventura and Kern counties. Santa Barbara County Fire received an emergency call at 9:30 a.m. yesterday. Firefighters found wreckage in the field and no survivors.

Horner won two Oscars for the music of "Titanic" and scored best-sellers such as "Avatar," "Braveheart," "Apollo 13" and "A Beautiful Mind." He had also composed the score for Cameron's "Avatar," and was planning to compose music of its sequels.

Horner composed music for over 100 films, and won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and was nominated for three British Academy Film Awards. In October 2013 James Horner received the Max Steiner Award at the Hollywood in Vienna Gala.

His last films will be Antoine Fuqua's boxing drama "Southpaw," and the Chilean miner film "The 33". Horner's music will hold a special place among the hearts of music lovers and moviegoers. The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation. Hollywood is deeply saddened by the loss.
