Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently sent an internal email to all its employees emphasizing the company's new mission statement. Based on Nadella's email, Microsoft's new goal is "to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more."

The email was first obtained by tech website GeekWire. Microsoft later confirmed its authenticity. In October 2013, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revised the company's mission statement.

Since taking Microsoft's top executive spot in February 2014, Nadella changed the company's main focus to personal computing. Nadella's core strategy incorporates the "mobile-first, cloud-first" philosophy.

Microsoft is slowly making big waves in terms of cloud storage as the company uses this platform as a medium to sell its software.

After his appointment as Microsoft CEO, Nadella spent much of his reign rebuilding Microsoft. He also played a big role in broadening the company's market. One of Nadella's most ambitious project is HoloLens which is a virtual reality headset.

Microsoft is currently preparing for a comeback in the software market with the release of Windows 10 operating system. According to CNet, more than 90 percent of the world's computer run on the Windows platform.

The decision to offer the upcoming upgrade for free to existing Windows users is a make or break decision for Nadella. It is also the first operating system from Microsoft to support multiple platform such as desktop PC, mobile and even console. This introduces a new "universal app" approach to developers, where they can create an app once and then it can run on multiple platform without any compatibility issue.

Nadella's email to Microsoft employees came in one week after a massive layoff on the company's Nokia division.
