The "Game of Thrones" Season 5 finale and the yet to be released "Winds of Winter" book are keeping many fans busy in online forum sites and comment boards. Several Jon Snow theories are being spun around, and there is an even louder demand for author George R.R. Martin to release the sixth book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The book is hoped to fix a possible death in the finale.
Spoiler alert: This update contains key "Game of Thrones" spoilers. Read on at your own risk.
In the finale episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 5, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, dies supposedly "for the Watch." It so happens that Melisandre a.k.a. The Red Woman (Carice van Houten) is just around the compound at the time. This tells many fans that Melisandre's Lord of Light will bring Jon Snow back to life.
Jon Snow's apparent death also unfolds in "A Dance with Dragons," the fifth published book in ASOIAF, the basis for HBO's "Game of Thrones." Martin has reportedly hinted at least once that Snow survives the stabbing in the books, but this does not necessarily mean that the HBO adaptation will follow suit.
As of Season 5, "Game of Thrones" showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff have veered too far from ASOIAF. For instance, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) have zero facetime in the books, at least not before Dany flies off with her dragon Drogon. This alone convinces some GOT fans that Jon Snow's fate in the books could be different from what viewers will see in GOT Season 6.
In another fan theory, Jon Snow does not die because he is also a warg or a skinchanger like Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright). "Game of Thrones" Season 5 finale fades out from the frame showing Jon Snow bleeding to death. Many fans imagine Jon's direwolf Ghost will burst from somewhere outside the camera frame, and Jon will instinctively warg into Ghost for the first time.
Harington has said in an interview that he will not be filming "Game of Thrones" Season 6. Still, fans are not convinced Jon Snow is dead. What do you think will happen next to Jon Snow?
