The perception remains that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date will happen at the same time with that of the Windows 10 launch, which is scheduled on July 29. Yet to date, there is no clear indication that the flagship device is indeed getting the green light later this month.
According to Bidness Etc, the Pro 4 tablet is already delayed considering the Surface Pro 3 was rolled out June last year. The expectation was at least, the device would have been unveiled by this time and the actual launch date known by now. But everything about the SP4 is still shrouded in mystery that there are talks it might have gotten the axe even before it is unboxed.
The same Bidness report would want to believe that the device remains a go but is definitely delayed. The blog site also offered that it is highly unlikely for the Pro 4 to simultaneously come out with the new Windows operating system.
The reason for that is that Microsoft has opted to power the device with Intel's Skylake processing chip, forcing the company to wait out for the chipset to actually become ready. And if the recent reports are to be believed, the Surface maker will have to hold out until August 2015 at the earliest.
The wait should be worth it as Skylake is thought to adequately support all the exciting specs and features that are programmed to be deployed with the SP4. But beyond these rumored specifications, Bidness is convinced that only two things will make the Pro 4 a winner or the laptop and tablet replacement (laplet in some reports) that Microsoft is pitching the device to be.
One is Windows 10 that not only is enhanced for desktop computing experience but also for a hybrid computing environment, which is one of the selling points that Microsoft highlights on the Surface Pro 4. With Windows 10 on the SP4, its maker hopes that the 2-in-1 model will finally take off.
The device, however, will not pick up if the still price would prove unattractive. At present, the Surface Pro 3 tag price, across all models, is relatively pricey and the likelihood is the same price modelling will be carried over with the Surface Pro 4 unboxing.
It is almost certain that an expensive SP4 will not make the product fly off the shelves so if Microsoft plans to beat its rivals, the Apple iPad chief among them, it needs to offer the Windows tablet flagship at price points that will make tablet users to seriously consider a big switch, Bidness said on its report.
The Surface Pro 4 release date, as mentioned, is unlikely to happen before the Windows 10 debut that Microsoft said will start rolling out in the last few days of July.
