"Hannibal" series' production company Gaumont International Television has just released the cast from their contracts. It was said that the executives have given up hope that the show would be picked up for season 4.
According to Deadline, the cast of "Hannibal" are now free to accept offers from other television shows and movies following the cancellation of the series. Actors Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, however, have not lost hope that the show would find a new home. NBC reportedly decided to cancel the series because of its poor ratings. The show, however, earned critical acclaim and severan nominations from Critics' Choice Television Awards and Saturn Awards.
As previously reported by Digital Spy, series executive producer Bryan Fuller remained hopeful that the series will be pick up by another network. He mentioned that he is talking to several interested parties in order to save the show. When asked about the probability of the show returning, the show runner claimed that there was a 50/50 chance.
It was reported that the writers have decided against adapting "Silence" until a fifth season is confirmed. Fuller refused to share details about the upcoming finale. He, however, hinted that it will highlight other elements of the Thomas Harris' novels.
Several fans have come together to sign an online petition in an effort to save "Hannibal." They reportedly took to Twitter with the hashtag #SaveHannibal to show their support for the series. It was said that they were calling for either Amazon Prime or Netflix to save the show.
