With the popularity of Sanrio's fictional character Hello Kitty, it has been reported that the anthropomorphic white bobtail cat is going to have her own movie.
According to Deadline, Sanrio is planning to produce and fund a "Hello Kitty" movie and it will be released four years from now. The executives of the Sanrio executives revealed that the film adaptation of the iconic Japanese brand will have its own expected budget within the range of $160 million to $20 million, running through Sanrio's United States Subsidiary.
In June, Sanrio Media and Pictures Entertainment was launched to aid the feat of the company's IP and brand library in an global approach. Back in January, the film rights to Sanrio's Mr. Men and Little Miss characters were secured by Fox Animation. The "Hello Kitty" film project will be supervised by Sanrio managing director Rehito Hatoyama.
Using Sanrio's allocated funds to the "Hello Kitty" project, the Japanese company is also taking into account the appearance of other known Sanrio characters in the film. These include Little Twin Stars and My Melody, which are rejoicing their 40th anniversaries.
The Japanese brand has preserved its fame for several years and it is unanticipated that the upcoming project has not come about sooner, according to Cinema Blend. Being a character with no definite core story, as compared to films in the Marvel and DC Cinematic Universe, Hello Kitty can be splashed into any kind of story plot.
At this point, the "Hello Kitty" project is under development. While it is uncertain if the film is going to be animated or live-action adaptation, it is assumed that Sanrio will make new revelations soon.
