Microsoft announced that a critical update will be released for the Xbox One in order to prepare it for future game streaming and backwards compatibility feature.
According to Techno Buffalo, online game streaming will be launched along with the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system on July 29. On the other hand, the backwards compatibility feature will be released sometime this fall.
Most of the time, an Xbox update means that a new user-interface feature will be released. However, Microsoft's Xbox division is currently focused into matters behinds the screen as it prepares for the one of the systems biggest overhaul. Reports claim that the Xbox console will sport a new Xbox One Experience interface as well as the integration of smart digital assistant Cortana into the system.
Announced by Microsoft at the 2015 E3 conference, the upcoming Xbox One backwards compatibility feature will allow gamers to play their Xbox 360 games into the new console. This opens up a lot of possibility for gamers, especially those who wants to upgrade to the new-generation console without losing their older-generation titles.
Many video game publishers and developers were happy about Microsoft's decision to support older titles. According to GottaBeMobile, porting an Xbox 360 game into the Xbox One system will not require video game developers to rewrite their source code. Instead, Microsoft has come up with a way to emulate the Xbox 360 system inside the Xbox One with just a few software updates.
The upcoming backwards compatibility for the Xbox console will be offered for free. Gamers who want to port their Xbox 360 game to the Xbox One console only needs to update their system and the games will be available in their Xbox One games library immediately.
Microsoft plans to fully launch the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature in fall. Currently, there is only a handful of Xbox 360 games that supports Xbox One backwards compatibility. However, Microsoft promised that the library of games will grow as the official launch date of the feature comes to a close.
