Microsoft has finally announced the latest system update for Xbox One, dated for July. This Xbox One System Update is in preparation of the Windows 10 experience for Xbox players.
Xbox user should not expect new features with the update, but it does carry support for backward compatibility, which has been promised to launch alter this week, Major Nelson reported via his blog. According to Microsoft, the point of the latest update is to focus on the New Xbox One Experience, which is a more integrative setup for Microsoft's projects.
The Xbox One backward compatibility feature is currently what sets Microsoft's next-gen console apart from the PS4, since the latter will not be getting the feature anytime soon. Players have received the announcement of the feature quite positively, to the point that many see E3 2015 as one the Xbox One's highlights for catering to fan feedback.
Players alone, however, are not the only ones that see the value in the additional feature. Previously, Halo developer 343 Industries mentioned that while they are not yet considering remastered versions of the likes of "Halo: Reach," backwards compatibility may allow for players to experience the title on the Xbox One.
Not all publishers and developers have stated their stance on whether they have been taking steps towards making previous games backward compatible on the Xbox One. After gathering for the current plans of developers, Kotaku found that most of the major publishing companies cannot comment yet on how their games will be made backwards compatible.
Companies like Nordic Games and Sega cannot yet give confirmation on backwards compatibility of games like "Darksiders 2" and "Bayonetta." Some studios, however, like NetherRealm Studios, CriterionGames and DeepSilver have expressed, either outright or hinted, that they are in talks with Microsoft regarding old titles.
NetherRealm Studios Creative Head Ed Boon had hinted via his Twitter the possibility of "Mortal Kombat 9" being available on the Xbox One. DeepSilver has also hinted that it is exploring backwards compatibility, though did not specify which games may be included. CriterionGames, responsible for "Burnout Paradise," gave a clear announcement that they are discussing the backwards compatibility capability of the title for the Xbox One.
