This year's transfer season had not been favorable for Manchester United's manager Louis van Gaal as he failed to complete most of his acquisition goals so far. But his recent disappointments would not stop the former Dutch national team coach.

According to ESPN, United is set to offer a massive £60-million fee to Bayern Munich for the transfer of its star winger Thomas Müller. LVG is reportedly intending to use the Germany international as a replacement for Dutch striker Robin van Persie, who will be joining Turkish club Fenerbahce SK in the coming season.

Without van Persie, the Old Trafford giants would be undermanned in their scoring options and so van Gaal is targeting the 25-year-old playmaker to shore up the team.

After a series of botched transfer attempts, United have only succeeded in getting young winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven so far in the offseason.

The Red Devils had always pursued Müller for the past three years, but the German insisted on staying put with the Bavarians. There are no clear indications if the team would get their wish this time.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star reported that United had already agreed on van Persie's transfer to Fenerbahce with a remuneration of £4.7 million. While some may deem the fee quite small, it was actually expected as there had been a reported beef between van Gaal and his former Dutch player.

With the deal's completion, the Red Devils now only has Wayne Rooney and teenage rookie James Wilson as their forwards.

Reportedly, United is also eyeing Tottenham's Harry Kane, Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani, and Olympique Lyonnais' Alexandre Lacazette.
