Windows Phones and iOS will no longer use the Photosynth apps, Microsoft announced. With immediate effect, the apps lose support from developers as they are pulled from their respective outlets. Photosynth users are warned that they are on their own since the company will no longer be accountable for the app.

"We are axing the app because the new Photosynth Preview technology and its integrated cloud processing is a greatly immersive way of capturing a place as opposed to the spherical panoramas produced by our apps," Microsoft announced via the Photosynth website.

According to PCWorld, phone users with panoramas integrated with the app should upload them to Photosynth.net, where they can share or make the apps private based on the privacy settings. Besides, Microsoft is canceling a variety of MSN mobile apps, although the dismissal is not looming.

The MSN apps will go in stages. MSN Travel and MSN Food & Drink for Windows, iOS, and Android will be canceled on Sept. 28. However, MSN Health and Fitness for the three platforms will not end until Nov. 1.

"We constantly assess our business to make sure that the company concentrates on the areas that give our customers the most value," Microsoft explained in a statement. "Those apps will still have our support because of the appeal from many customers, especially in News, Weather, Sports, and Money. These areas will come as apps on Windows 10 and remain cross platform."

There is no clear information on how some of the important features of the apps may survive on other Microsoft platforms. Furthermore, there is increasing curiosity on how Microsoft will source information for other services that relied on the axed apps.
