Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release may be affected by the imminent job cuts in the company. Microsoft reportedly plans to lay off 7,800 employees in the coming months.
According to The New York Times, Microsoft will let go of the 6 percent of its employees mostly from the phone business. Microsoft acquired the Nokia business last year along with the absorption of some of its employees. Now, the shake-up in the top level position prompted a change of heart and Microsoft will no longer focus on making smartphones.
Los Angeles Times cited an unnamed source familiar to the matter saying that most of the job cuts will take place in Finland and Brazil as well as 129 people from the San Diego office that is being closed.
The layoffs are part of new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's plans to reinvent the company to make it more competitive against its rivals - Apple and Google. Microsoft's smartphone line proved to be unprofitable prompting the executives not to invest a lot in manufacturing new devices. The company will start strengthening its mobile operating system and the development of more Windows Phone apps to be at par with iOS and Android OS.
Meanwhile, with the sudden stir up in Microsoft's business, there are speculations that the imminent Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release will be delayed. It was previously reported that Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release will take place on July 29 alongside the launch of Windows 10. There are reports claiming that the Surface Pro 4 launch was pushed back in 2016.
Meanwhile, some of the purported features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 are: 12-inch screen display with 2K pixel resolution, Intel Skylake processor, stylus, and USB Type-C port. Just like the previous Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the device will sport a keyboard accessory that will transform the device into an ultra-portable laptop.
