Although a lot of consumers are waiting, Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release may not happen this year.

Previous reports claimed that Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release will take place on July 29 alongside the official roll out of Windows 10 operating system. Other reports claimed that the laplet will be announced later this year battling iPad Air or iPad Pro face-to-face.

The following are the three possible reasons why Microsoft may skip the Surface Pro 4 release this year.

New Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Intel i7 variants

According to PC World, Microsoft silently slipped a cheaper version of Microsoft powered by Intel i7 processor with 128GB storage. Microsoft previously offers 256GB and 512GB storage variants of Surface Pro 4 with i7 chipset. The 128GB variants costs $1,299 and aims to rival iPad Air 2 offering 128GB storage as well.

An addition of a new tablet variant either means the company exhausting its i7 chips inventory to make way for new chipset in new tablet or to renew the interest in Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and dampens the possibility of Surface Pro 4 release.

Increasing Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Sales

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 was released last year and was received well by reviewers and critics. However, this did not translate in terms sales immediately. Now, the laplet has gained immense popularity and Microsoft may want to take advantage of this and retain the Surface Pro 3.

Recently, the Redmond-based company offered discounts on Microsoft Surface Pro 3, which may indicate its successor or inviting consumers to pick up the device.

CEO Satya Nadella "One Microsoft" Approach

Microsoft has a new leader and is expected to undergo new changes. Satya Nadella took over as the chief executive of Microsoft replacing Steve Balmer and he wrote a letter to Microsoft employees explaining his plans for fiscal year 2016. The letter contained inspirational and uplifting words that aim to boost the morale of the employees as well as explaining the adoption of the new "One Microsoft" approach.

Geek Wire got hold of the letter and posted some parts of it. Specifically, it stated, "We will need to innovate in new areas, execute against our plans, make some tough choices in areas where things are not working and solve hard problems in ways that drive customer value."

Although Nadella did not specifically name the areas, it is speculated that Microsoft will axe Windows Phone and Surface lines.

However, Microsoft has not announced the details whether it will hold Microsoft Surface pro 4 release.
