Bastian Schweinsteiger has accepted to join Manchester United for three years at £7.2 million annually. The Germany midfielder's close relationship with Louis van Gaal reportedly may have been a major contribution to his decision.

It is coincidental that Schweinsteiger's pay at United will be the same as his current deal at Bayern. The 30-year-old has already talked to his bosses about his intention to join Manchester United and is planning to fly to Manchester to formalize the agreement.

Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger did not attend Bayern's conventional pre-season presentation at the Allianz Arena, Mail Online reported.

According to Daily Star, the only issue at hand is the fee, with Bayern seemingly looking for upwards of £15 million. However, Manchester United views that as excessive for a player of his age with only 12 months left on his Allianz Arena contact.

After commencing his career at Bayern as a teenager 17 years ago and proving to be dependable, the Bundesliga champions will not hold back and are willing to bargain a compromise figure.

The greatly experienced midfielder has been under pursuit by Manchester United for some weeks, but optimism was starting to wane after proposals he would end up signing Bayern's offer of a new two-year deal.

Doors almost shut for Manchester United when Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge personally called Schweinsteiger after his return from holiday earlier this week. In the call, Rummenigge had emphasized on Schweinsteiger's importance to the Munich cause.

Allegedly, Schweinsteiger spent 24 hours pondering about his future before settling for a new beginning at Old Trafford. Thoughts of working with van Gaal in tandem during the manager's season in charge at Bayern were prominent.

Although Schweinsteiger has had not conflicts with the current boss Pep Guardiola, he suspects the coach might prefer Thiago Alcantara to him in the coming season.
