Scientists predict in the next 15 years a "mini ice-age" will take over the globe causing bitter winters and freezing of rivers, harking back to a situation in the 1700's when Britain's popular Thames river was frozen.

The University of Northumbria's solar researchers have developed a new model based on the sun's activity which according to the Telegraph has the capacity to provide accurate predictions regarding the weather.

According to the scientists the movements within the sun can been categorized as cycles. Futhermore researchers believe that when the cycles of the sun begin to come together, which is anticipated to happen in 2030, the temperatures will drop dramatically.

According to the publication at which point the activity of the sun will reduce by almost 60 percent, as two cycles will cancel out one another.

Prof. Valentina Zharkova who made a presentation at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno in Wales was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying the effects endured by individuals during that generation will be similar to the environmental effects experienced during those in the 17th century.

The cyclic movements of the sun taking place between 2030 and 2040, Zharkova claims will almost mirror each at the same time in opposite hemispheres. The movements, according to the scientist, are believed to be disruptive to the environment.

According to the British publication it has been 172 years since a researcher first noticed the Sun's activity which varies over a period lasting about 10 to 12 years.  However scientists believe each cycle is different and no solar model to date has been able to fully explain fluctuations and convections that take place within the sun's core.
