Samsung finally unveils its highly-anticipated Galaxy A8 smartphone. The Galaxy A8 is Samsung's slimmest smartphone to date and will be available for pre-orders in China.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 boasts an ultra-thin body measuring only 5.9mm. It is considered as the successor of the Samsung Galaxy A7 which was launched in January.

While the Galaxy A8 is Samsung's slimmest device, it is not the slimmest in the market. In terms of dimension, the Galaxy A8 will go head-to-head with Oppo R5 measuring only 5.5mm and Vivo X5Max which is only 4.7mm thick.

Unlike the high-end and pricier Samsung S series of devices, the Galaxy A8 will be released somewhere around the top mid-tiered devices and will fetch a price tag of around $560. The Galaxy A8 though will share the same metal body and premium design just like the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge.

As for the smartphone's hardware specs, it has a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset from Qualcomm which is composed of four A53 Cortex cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four A53 Cortex cores clocked at 1.0GHz, according to NDTV. The chipset also includes an Andreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of internal memory.

In terms of storage, the Samsung Galaxy A8 will be available in two variants; the 16GB and 32GB model. Storage expansion can be made on both models via the microSD slot that supports up to 128GB. According to Gizmodo, the Galaxy A8 also has a fingerprint scanner.

For its camera, the Galaxy A8 boasts a 16-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization, autofocus technology and a LED flash. The smartphone also has a 5-megapixel front-facing secondary camera.

Despite the phone's extra thin body, Samsung was able to throw in a powerful 3,050 mAh battery to which the company claim can last up to 304 hours on standby.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is expected to be released running on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system and will probably support the upcoming Android M once the update is released. The phone is currently available for pre-order in China and Samsung has yet to confirm the official release date of the smartphone in other region.
