With Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" hitting theaters soon, Evangeline Lilly has revealed the transformation that her character went through when the script and the story were being rewritten.
Lilly is playing the role of Hope Van Dyne in Reed's upcoming film. In her interview with Cinema Blend, the "Lost" actress said that her Van Dyne was initially characterized as a cynical and dark character. Lilly added that the character is, in a way, an epitome of an obscure character that one can imagine in graphic novels or comic books.
In contrary to the original idea that Van Dyne works together with the primary antagonist Darren Cross, who is playing Corey Stoll/ Yellowjacket, the "Lost" actress added that rewriting the story and the script has changed her cynical character into someone with "more dimensions" and "more humanity."
For Lilly, the changes the script and the story went through will let fans find her character Van Dyne easier to get to and more relatable. In addition, the actress mentioned that her character has evolved from an unattainable being into a more social creature.
In her interview with Screen Rant, Lilly said how she and Van Dyne become one in the film. She said that in order to understand her character, she has to "invest" in learning more about Hank Pym and Van Dyne's mother, Janet.
Adam McKay and Paul Rudd took over the story and the script after Edgar Wright chose to leave "Ant-Man" film. The change in Lilly's character was one of the notable elements they added to the script and the story.
Along with Lilly and Stoll, "Ant-Man" also stars Paul Rudd as the titular superhero, Michael Douglas, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Stan Lee, Hayley Atwell, John Slattery, and Bobby Cannavale, among others.
