Zac Efron's fellow "High School Musical 3" alum Justin Martin, 21, engaged in a shoot-out with Boston police officers and was arrested on July 14, Tuesday. It is still not clear what instigated the shoot-out.

Martin was observed running down the street in Dorchester with a gun in his hand, according to the Boston Police Department. He turned and pointed the gun at the police after they chased him down while a second unidentified male suspect started to fire several times.

Officers also fired at Martin but did not strike him. They recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun after getting the actor to the ground. The second suspect, who approached the police with a loaded .25 caliber handgun while Martin was placed in custody, was detained and also placed in custody.

Martin will be charged with two counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon. In addition, he and the second suspect have been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm.

After Martin's court appearance on July 15, Wednesday, his mother told TMZ she will try to bail her son out.

Earlier in July, Efron was featured in a series of satirical TV commercials written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg about a product called a D**k Gun for an episode of "Hit Record on TV with Joseph Gordon-Levitt."

The "Hit Record on TV with Joseph Gordon-Levitt" episode talked about guns, which was Gordon-Levitt's most controversial topic yet, according to Indie Wire.

Efron has yet to comment on Martin's arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.
