As the official release date of Windows 10 draws near, Microsoft announced that it will release an all-inclusive app store for platforms including PC, smartphones and tablets. The company added that the new store will be available on the Xbox console as well.
The fully renovated app store is part of Microsoft's plan to release a unified store that will cover all Windows 10 platforms.
In the past, users of Windows PC and tablet will have to go to Windows Store to purchase apps and software while Windows Phone users will have to go to Windows Phone Store. With the unification of the two stores, all Windows devices can now purchase app and software on a single store.
This unification strategy is also beneficial to app developers since they will no longer rewrite their program's code and modify it to fit different platforms. As a result, a single platform will reduce the time and expense needed in recreating a single app for multiple platforms.
While Microsoft is currently focusing on the PC and mobile platform, the Xbox console is also part of the recent unification. According to CNet, the app unification means that Xbox game developers can use common codes in order to develop and create games.
Microsoft has yet to confirm when the universal app store will be released. However, many industry analysts believe that the universal app store should be ready by the time Microsoft starts rolling the Windows 10 update.
The Windows 10 update will be released on July 29. According to WinBeta, the Mobile version of Windows 10 will be released sometime in late September.
