"Ant-Man" director Peyton Reed has dished on the Spider-Man reference in the sci-fi action and Ant-Man's role in "Captain America: Civil War."
In an interview with Comic Book, Reed said, "Well, as everything (in) the Marvel Universe, things are constantly changing and evolving. It was something that very late in the game happened."
Reed said they had those conversations about whether or not they are going to deal with it in "Ant-Man" and how they will deal with it in the movie if they should. He added that they liked the idea of dropping only a little tiny reference of Spider-Man toward the end of the "Ant-Man" movie.
According to Reed, the Spider-Man reference in "Ant-Man" excited him and it was great just to have that connection with a character he grew up loving.
With Paul Rudd playing the title role, "Ant-Man" stars Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie Lang and Judy Greer as Maggie Lang.
In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reed shared some "Ant-Man" spoilers. He said that it is not a secret that at the end of the "Ant-Man" movie, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) is looking for Ant-Man.
This is why, as Reed told the publication, it really made sense now to tease "Captain America: Civil War" and to tease Ant-Man's part in it by having that scene with Captain America and Falcon.
Released on July 17, "Ant-Man" also stars Michael Peña, David Dastmalchian, T.I., Wood Harris, Hayley Atwell, John Slattery, Martin Donovan, Garrett Morris, Gregg Turkington, Rod Hallett, Joe Chrest, Joe Bucaro III, Jean Louisa Kelly, Dax Griffin and Norma Alvarez, among others.
