While HBO's "Game Of Thrones" has received the most number of Emmy nominations this year, author George R.R. Martin lamented his disappointment that the Academy left out shows like "Outlander."

The popular HBO series garnered 24 nominations - considered the most nominations at the Emmys by any show, according to Martin who wrote in his Live Journal while taking time to elaborate on those that missed the elusive nod by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Martin who is a member of the Academy said in his blog that he was confident that the TV series "Justified" would make the list but remained shocked, claiming "how in the world did they overlook "Outlander"."

The author of "A Song Of Ice And Fire" who is currently penning the sixth novel in the epic fantasy series said the "Outlander" series with its beautiful cinematography, costumes and music should have been considered.

Furthermore, Martin went on to commend the performances of the three main leads even mentioning Tobias Menzies' role and character in "Outlander" which requires the actor to play double roles.

According to a report by entertainment website Cinema Blend the Emmy Awards do not always take into consideration preferences of viewers and even preferences of members of the Academy who vote are rarely considered.

In 2011 actor Peter Dinklage won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for his character in the "Game Of Thrones" series which was the first win for the show in the acting category.
