Android M is most likely to be released in the fall this year. The anticipated name "Android M" may not be the actual name of the operating system after all, as it is rumored to be called as Android 5.2.

Since Google is known to keep the names of its operating systems referring to sweets and chocolates, names like Milkshake, Marshmallow, Muffin and Mint Chip were earlier proposed for the meaning of the letter "M" in Android M.

According to a latest report about this upgrade, it is stated that instead of the 6th version, this upgrade will be just a continuation of the Android Lollipop series, according to iDigital Times.

It should also be noted that when Android 4.0 was released, there were many iterations for this operating system before Google released the new version, Android Lollipop 5.0.

When an update is released with a full number upgrade, it implies that the update consists of some major overhauls for the system, according to The Pocket Lint.

When Android 5.0 Lollipop was introduced, it was equipped with new notification functions, more battery life, material design interface, device sharing, security and many performance enhancements.

Android M is not expected to be loaded with many overhauls and it will just be an extension to the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This upgrade is meant to fix recurrent issues in Android devices, like camera performance, device heating, battery drainage and other performance issues.

The developer's versions of this upgrade is already out and can be downloaded for a test run. This upgrade will also support USB Type-C ports and finger print recognition in the devices. The update is rumored to be released along with Google Nexus 5 2015, which will be pre-equipped with it.
