Efficient and safe public transportation services, such as the construction of highways and high-speed railways and designation of exclusive lanes, can be expected to be provided by the Beijing government should the Chinese capital win its 2022 Winter Olympics bid.

"To guarantee smooth transportation during the competition period, Beijing will set exclusive lanes like we did during the 2008 Summer Olympics, if awarded to China," the bid committee's facilities construction chief Shi Weiliang stated.

Shi added that for the next seven years, a more detailed transportation plan will be created basing from traffic changes.

According to Beijing deputy mayor Zhang Jiandong, the Beijing and Zhangjiakou governments have agreed to create three more highways and a high-speed train, whose construction is set to end by 2019, to connect the three venues, "providing efficient and secure public transportation services."

China's capital, along with its co-host city, has already assigned three venue clusters, including Zhangjiakou, Yanqing and downtown Beijing.

According to the city's plan, the venues will be equipped with accommodation as well as commercial and catering services.

The plan also reveals that a purpose-built Nordic and Biathlon Center located in the co-host city of Zhangjiakou and a Yanqing-based Alpine Ski Center will cater Nordic combined events, cross-country and Alpine skiing.

Events on ice will be happening at key downtown Beijing venues, such as the MasterCard Center, the Water Cube, the National Indoor Stadium and the National Stadium.

These venues, according to the bid plan, will be proximate to each other, decreasing the travel time from the catering to the competition venues.
