New "The Mindy Project" season 4 spoilers revealed that it will introduce a new character to be played by "Snowden" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The comedy series was resurrected by Hulu after Fox cancelled it in May. [SPOILER ALERT: Read at your own risk.]
In "The Mindy Project" season 4 episode 1 titled "While I Was Sleeping," which will air on Hulu on Sept. 15, Gordon-Levitt will appear as a guest actor playing a sophisticated reality show producer for Bravo named Matt.
According to BuzzFeed News, Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) will be married to Matt as she is no longer with Danny Castellano (Chris Messina). On June 12, Kaling and Castellano also guest-starred in Gordon-Levitt's Pivot series "Hit Record" season 2 premiere.
In "The Mindy Project" season 3, Danny is set to meet Mindy's parents in India. In season 3 episode 21 titled "Best Man," Danny was a no-show for dinner with Mindy's parentsand Morgan Tookers (Ike Barinholtz) thought he overheard Mindy saying Danny is not the father of her baby.
In addition, according to another "The Mindy Project" season 4 spoiler from Entertainment Weekly, Mindy's mother is an aspiring Bollywood actress, while her father is looking to basically kill the man who knocked up Mindy and left her unmarried.
Created by Kaling, "The Mindy Project" is inspired by the 1998 romantic comedy "Sliding Doors," which was written and directed by Peter Howitt. It starred Gwyneth Paltrow, John Hannah, John Lynch, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Zara Turner, Douglas McFerran and Nina Young, among others.
"The Mindy Project" has also featured James Franco, John Cho, Seth Rogen, Lee Pace, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, Hannibal Buress and Timothy Olyphant as guest stars.
