"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is more than a month away from its premiere date. But fans are eager to know what happens to Ellen Pompeo's character Meredith Grey in the post-Derek Shepherd era. A recent report notes that rumours swirling around suggest the death of the leading lady in Season 12.
According to International Business Times, rumours claim that the Pompeo could be bidding goodbye to her role as Meredith Grey after Season 12. It is rumoured that Season 12 will be actress' last outing as Meredith Grey as she does not want to extend her contract. It is speculated that this may cause show's creator Shonda Rhimes to kill Meredith Grey.
Fans must note that this is mere speculation as the report lacks official confirmation and comments from the associated persons.
Meredith is expected to find a new love interest in Martin Henderson's character, debuting in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12. "Miracles from Heaven" actor has joined the show as a main cast member and he is said to be playing the role of a new male lead after Patrick Dempsey's character Derek Shepherd's death.
The new character is expected to help Meredith deal with death of her husband and strike a balance in her professional and personal life as a single mother of three children.
The report also notes what's next for the April and Jackson and, Jo and Alex. It is speculated that April will choose her career over her marriage. As for Jolex, they will take their relationship to a new level after moving out of Meredith's place.
During Television Critics Association 2015 (via Deadline), Rhimes talked about Meredith and other characters in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12. "It's a weird rebirth of all the characters but really for Meredith," Rhimes said.
