The final match in the second day of the new Premier League season will be Stoke City FC versus Liverpool FC at the Britannia Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent, August 9.

Although Liverpool seems to be the stronger team on paper, history seems to favor Stoke City on their opener as the latter won their last 11 home games while the Reds have only won once in their previous seven matches at the Britannia Stadium.

Brendan Rogers would not let history dictate this encounter, tough, as he is keen on starting Liverpool's new season on a high note. With new recruit, striker Christian Benteke, Rogers' wish may be fulfilled on Sunday.

The team had been unbeaten on its last six games, with their most recent one a masterful 2-1 win over League One club Swindon Town FC at the County Ground last week, as per This Is Anfield.

On the other hand, the Potters have lost two of their most recent games, both preseason friendlies. The last one was a 0-3 whitewash against Portuguese club FC Porto at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany also last week, via Daily Mail Online.

The predicted result is a close 3-2 win for the Reds. They come in better equipped that the Potters, although the score may be the other way around if history is to be considered. It should be noted that the last time these two teams met at this same ground, with Raheem Sterling still at Liverpool, Stoke City destroyed them 6-1.
