It has been rumored that Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" sequel is not going to push though and a "Deadpool" sequel will be seen in the big screen instead.
Sources told The Daily Superhero that 20th Century Fox was going plot "Deadpool 2" on June 9, 2017, which is the release date of the "Fantastic Four" sequel. "Fantastic Four's" performance in the weekend box office was the reason behind the studio's rumored change of plans.
After its release on Aug. 7, Trank's "Fantastic Four" has grossed an estimated $26 million nationwide and an estimated $34 million in its other market areas, for a total of an estimated $60 million in a global scale. The film got $26 million on its opening weekend, which was quite subordinate to the other Marvel films' opening.
Meanwhile, fans are excited to see Tim Miller's "Deadpool" hit the big screen, despite of its R-rating. Fans have followed the Merc with the Mouth, who is played by "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" actor Ryan Reynolds, in the anti-hero's film teasers and trailers. Miller's upcoming film also made a noise at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, which has led Fox to consider the film sequel to replace "Fantastic Four."
It could be challenging for Fox to accomplish a "Deadpool" sequel hastily should the studio plots the film in a 2017 release, according to Cinema Blend. This paints that the studio has to do its planning and filming on or before June 2016. If "Deadpool" does not become stellar in the box office, it will be a bad spot for Fox.
While things remain as rumors at the moment, the plans for both the "Fantastic Four" and "Deadpool" sequels are yet to be confirmed.
"Fantastic Four" stars Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Toby Kebbell, among others. Meanwhile, "Deadpool" stars Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein, and T.J. Miller, among others.
Trank's "Fantastic Four" is showing in theaters while Miller's "Deadpool" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Feb. 12, 2016.
