Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, 37, is on NBC's  radar for the top slot to take  over from Donald Trump as host of the upcoming prime time TV show "The Celebrity Apprentice."

The lawyer who recently married actor George Clooney in Venice is on a short list of  female candidates which include "Fantastic Four" actress Jessica Alba who also runs a successful household products empire and Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg, according to the Express.

In a move that seemed as if NBC's bosses turned Trump's catchphrase from the TV show "You're fired!" on him, following remarks he made about illegal Mexican immigrants being "rapists and murderers" during a political campaign speech last month, the network has begun looking for a replacement.

Since the network closed the door on Trump, it has shifted its focus to fill his place with  a high-profile female who can command respect and attention in the boardroom as well as attract star power on the red carpet and they believe Mrs. Clooney is the perfect fit.

A source quoted by the Daily Mail said as well as being the wife of a Hollywood star, she is a highly respected figure in her field of work. In addition, NBC executives feel that her quiet demeanour gives an air of curiosity and viewers will want to know more about her.

According to friends of the celebrity couple quoted by the publication the concept of filming in New York where Mrs. Clooney is  a visiting lectuer at Columbia University has made the proposition even more enticing.

The show which averages more than seven million viewers, features famous guests who, instead of competing for a high profile job, battle it out to raise the most money for charity.

According to NBC executives, the show would be the ideal launching pad for Mrs. Clooney  to leap into an  on-screen career that would in turn elevate her profile in the United States among viewers.
