Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is reportedly working on a new entry-level crossover car and plans to unveil it at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. The rumored car is a crossover that will fall just below the Toyota RAV4 and will feature the C-HR design concept.
The still unnamed crossover car is reported to be roughly the same size as the Nissan Qashqai which is one of the best-selling crossover car in the European market. Some industry analysts claim that the new car from Toyota aims to rival the Qashai.
The cars design is based on the C-HR concept which was first presented at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. It features bulging front fenders, a glass roof and wraparound tail lights.
Toyota sales chief in Europe Karl Schlicht told Australian website CarAdvice, "The C-HR is obviously exaggerated, it's a concept car. Stretched, bigger wheels, whatever - but something like that, we're going to do. We're serious about it, yes."
According to Auto Car, the rumored crossover car from Toyota will be called the Auris Cross. The Toyota Auris is a hatchback released in the European market and is being sold in the United States as the 2016 Scion iM.
Toyota's rumored hatchback crossover will be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform which is used to the manufacture of the newer models of Toyota Prius. Despite being modeled from the Prius, the new crossover car from Toyota will ditch standard hybrid drivetrain and instead favor a smaller gasoline and diesel based four-cylinder engine which is believed to include a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel engine from Mazda.
