"Empire" enthusiasts have something to smile about after the hit show returns with an improved season 2, more drama, twists, and singing in the story of the family dynasty. Just like "Empire" season 1, this series will star new characters.

According to the Franchise Herald, Lee Daniels, co-developer of "Empire" confirmed that Mariah Carey would be starring in the next season. He said this during a ceremony for the revealing of pop diva star in Hollywood Walk of Fame.

However, show director Ilen Chaiken emphasized that the film will focus on major characters as opposed to guest stars. The purpose is to remind fans that while they are acquiring big names, they are still going to concentrate on the story of the Lyons family.

"We are essentially very careful not to allow a shift in the dynamics of the show - and truthfully, not to have a lot of big names that it seems like their show and not the Lyon show," Chaiken pointed out.

Characters that will feature on season two include Chris Rock, Kelly Rowland, Maris Tomei, Adam Rodriguez, Pitbull, Andre Royo, Lenny Kravitz, Tyra Ferrell, and Ludacris, E! News reported.

Another promising trailer is also out. The trailer reveals Anika (Grace Gealey, returning to an unusual extent and she will work in conjunction with Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) to take over the company. Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is also planning with Lucious (Terrence Howard) to deal with his issue that Lucious has with Andre.

While Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) plots to get her firm back, her greatest ally is opposed to her. As opposed to the united front of the Lyon brothers perceived in the previous season, all the three boys are going to conflict with each other in the next season.

"Empire" season 2 is set to premiere on Sept. 23.
