Samsung has revealed whatever there is to know on the Galaxy Note 5 and the specs and features provided so far make it as the phone to watch this 2015. The phablet flagship, however, will have to slug it out with rivals out there and that comes to mind is the Google Nexus 2015.
On release date, the pure Android flagship is said to be served hot in two flavors - a regular LG variant at 5.2-inch and a hulking phablet at 5.7-inch with a more premium finish and top-tier specs. The second bet of a hulk is from Huawei and easily is the direct foe of the Galaxy Note 5.
How likely will the phablet showdown turn out? Here's a quick preview considering the revealed details so far:
Super premium
LG talked about creating a super premium phone that reports said will be called the LG G4 Pro and immediately the rumored device is dreamed about as the LG Nexus. What LG meant by premium is a puzzle for now and so the next Nexus is but Samsung just showed the way how cook up a device that is both gorgeous and solid.
To simply describe the Note 5, Zach Epstein of BGR called the device a killer phablet that has so much power inside while the finish screams of tough and premium thanks to fusion of metal and glass that serve as the Galaxy Note 5 casing.
It is hard to imagine that the Nexus 2015 will even equal the Note 5 build considering that the device's main focus is to keep the cost low so premium is not necessarily on top of the list.
Supreme specs
And as mentioned, the Note 5 is a beauty and a beast. The shell is robust and pretty but all the more the components under the hood. The 64-bit 8-core Exynos 7420 is top of the line that is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM module, the latter currently on top of the memory chip food chain. With such monster of an engine, it may be quite a while before a new will come up and overwhelm the Note 5. And there is little sign that that device is any of the Nexus 2015 models.
QHD Super AMOLED
The 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 5 front panel assembly boasts of QHD Super AMOLED that is responsible for its 2560 x 1440 screen resolution with up to 518 pixels squeezed per inch. The result is a stunning mobile device screen rendering that is crisp, clear and vivid.
S Pen
Now stylus is surely not in the Nexus 2015 and Samsung is making sure that smartphone users not picking up the Note 5 will miss out on loads of killer and productivity features. The latest S Pen iteration is far better - looks quite premium and all the more premium when held and used. Enhanced accuracy and sensitivity makes writing on the S Pen closely simulate scrawling with pen on a piece of high-quality paper, BGR said on its review.
And as noted by Marques Brownlee in a first take YouTube clip, one interesting feature of the new S Pen is it writes a note on a sleeping Note 5 screen then the device saves the created document for later use. Also, the chance of losing the Note 5 stylus is quite low now as the S Pen will remain secure on its holster unless ejected by a pressured tap.
