The latest casting reports on "The Originals" tease that the fans will see familiar faces in the upcoming new season of the CW TV series. Claire Holt and Casper Zafer are set to make flashback appearances as Rebekah and Finn Mikaelson in "The Originals" Season 3.
According to E!News, "The Originals" executive producer Michael Narducci confirmed the casting news during the 2015 Summer TCA press tour. Narducci explained that Claire Holt's return as Original vampire Rebekah Mikaelson in "The Originals" Season 3 has something to do with the new vampire character Aurora (Rebecca Breeds).
"Aurora is part of Rebekah's sire line. So we'll get to see some flashbacks between Rebekah and Aurora," Narducci shared. Narducci added that Claire Holt will be Rebekah Mikaelson in the flashback scenes but Maisie Richardson-Sellers will be the one portraying the character at present-day in New Orleans.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Narducci revealed that the theme of "The Originals" Season 3 will be about sire lines. The fans will finally meet some of the people that Rebekah, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) turned into vampires because they will be heading to New Orleans to wreak havoc against their creators.
Aside from Claire Holt, the actors who originally portrayed the characters Kol and Finn Mikaelson in "The Vampire Diaries" will also appear through flashback scenes in "The Originals" Season 3. Nathaniel Buzolic and Casper Zafer are set to return as Kol and Finn, respectively.
In "The Originals" Season 2, Rebecca and Davina (Danielle Campbell) promised Kol that they will find a way to resurrect him from the dead. As for Finn, Freya Mikaelson (Riley Voelkel) took up his soul from Vincent's (Yusuf Gatewood) body and kept it safe in her necklace.
This will be Casper Zafer's first time to appear as Finn Mikaelson in "The Originals" after portraying the character in "The Vampire Diaries." It is still unknown if the fans will see Claire Holt, Nathaniel Buzolic and Casper Zafer as the Original siblings in present-day New Orleans.
For now, Narducci admitted it means a lot that Holt, Buzolic and Zafer still want to return and portray the characters of the show. "The Originals" Season 3 will premiere on Thursday night, Oct. 8, at 9/8c on the CW Network.
