Microsoft is reportedly taking on the smartphone market not only with the 2015 Lumia flagship models but also with a Windows 10-powered handset known for now as the Surface Mobile. The device is fully equipped to tussle with industry leaders, the Google Nexus 2015 among them, a new report said.

Windows-centric blog site WMPower User is saying a report that a prototype of the Surface Mobile is already in the testing phase and the revealed specs so far are nothing short of impressive. The banner specifications include a 5.5-inch AMOLED display in 2K resolution, a 64-bit tri-core Intel Atom processor and up to 4GB of RAM depending on the model.

Digging deeper, the same report indicated that the Surface Mobile has the chops to easily win an epic showdown with any of the Google Nexus 2015 smartphone models, rumored to unboxed as the LG Nexus 5 2015 and Huawei Nexus 6 2015. Five of these superb device features are briefly detailed below:

Premium, solid and beautiful

Under the hood, the Surface Mobile appears to scream power, which according to WMPower User is encased in pretty shell made of aluminum, magnesium and glass. The materials indicate that Microsoft is cooking up a beautiful and solid phone to showcase the power of the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile.

The Surface Mobile front panel is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating to further accentuate its premium class. Google's Huawei Nexus is said to be the premium kind but that happening remains unconfirmed.

Windows 10 Mobile headline features

It is said that Lumia phones exist to best showcase what the new Windows 10 mobile operating system can do. But Microsoft seems convinced that this objective is better complemented by issuing the Surface Mobile phone.

There are many capabilities that the Surface Mobile and Windows 10 are set to showcase but the one that generates the most interest is Continuum on Phones. The feature, Microsoft said, will instantly transform the Surface Mobile into a desktop-class machine just by hooking it up to a large-screen monitor and using compatible accessories such as keyboard and mouse. The same is not expected from the Nexus 2015.

Massive built-in storage and more

While the Nexus 2015 is rumored to provide a 126GB model, Microsoft is likely to issue a Surface Mobile edition with the same storage capacity. Users though with moderate storage needs can opt for the 64GB option.

However, it is likely too that the Surface phone will feature a microSD slot in which users can slide in up to 128GB of extra memory. It is highly doubtful that the same will be seen in any of the LG and Huawei Nexus models.

Windows phablet with stylus

It appears too that the key Surface Mobile design is that of phablet functions and make things easier for Windows fans, a Surface Pen stylus is included in the package, WMPower User said on its report.

Jaw-dropping camera

In case of a camera shootout between the Microsoft and Google phones, the former could easily gain the upper hand with is system of a 21-megapixel PureView Zeiss 6-lens front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel Zeiss wide-angle camera. Now PureView is long regarded as a label that is synonymous to top-notch quality.

The Nexus shooter is expected to pack a 21MP main camera, specifically in the case of the LG Nexus, or 16MP (for the Huawei Nexus) with 5MP on front for both models.

The earliest release date schedule attributed to the Microsoft Surface Mobile is December 2015 but the same WMPower User report noted that the Windows 10 flagship phone could arrive a little later, around the first quarter of 2016.
