Google explained in a blog post that OnHub is fast, secure, and simple to use, and will cost about $200, according to Sky News. It can be pre-ordered at various online retailers include Amazon.com, Google Store, and Walmart.com.

The new router will give users the ability to prioritize their various devices.  For instance, they can use the fastest speeds for heavy-duty activities such as streaming movies or downloading files.

The router can be linked to Google's On app, which is available on Android and iOS platforms, according to Reuters. It will run various applications, such as bandwidth use tracking and network checks.

Another feature of OnHub is that new features and security upgrades will be updated automatically. That mirrors Google's Chrome browser and Android OS.

The network company TP-LINK is producing th e router. Google has said that it might add another manufacturing partner in the future.

Its new Wi-Fi router product launch is happening just days after the company formed the holding company Alphabet Inc. The move merges its various subsidiaries and divides its new business ventures such as self-driving cars, and web advertising.

Google has launched other products that benefit smart homes. For example, last year it purchased the smart thermostat manufacturer Nest for $3.2 billion.

The California-based company is also taking other steps to improve its Internet service. They include the Google Fiber service offered in various cities, and its Project Loon that involves using floating balloons to beam the Internet to remote regions.
