It is during this lapsed period that the star had not been able to seek medical attention according to People.

The publication claims Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and was informed she had invasive breast cancer. The lawsuit details reveal that the star was informed that  the cancer began spreading in 2014 at the time that she was uninsured.

During this period the star who is married to photographer Kurt Iswarienko was uninsured and had kept away from seeking medical help thereby delaying the possibility of an earlier diagnosis.

Further the lawsuit revealed that doctors informed the "Charmed" actress that had treatment been sought sooner the spreading of the cancer could have been stopped.

The actress will likely require more severe treatment including chemotherapy and  a possible mastectomy according to a report by Yahoo News.

In addition, Doherty's husband is also suing former partner Steven D. Blatt and the accounting firm for mismanaging the finances of the couple which has led to other financial mishaps including  tax audits.

Meanwhile, the accounting firm of the couple Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson has denied being the cause of Doherty's lapse in health insurance.

In a statement released by the firm it said the company is saddened to learn of the star's condition but said the claim that their actions caused her condition to worsen is false and added that the firm will defend all claims in court.

It has not been revealed as to how much in terms of compensation the couple is seeking but the lawsuit documents have revealed that the actress has been caused severe emotional distress and has been unable to work ever since her diagnosis.
