Chavarria's role in Reeves' "War of the Planet of the Apes" will be of the same kind to James Franco's lead role in Rupert Wyatt's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" in 2014, as per Cinema Blend. Franco played the role of Caesar's previous owner and father figure Will Rodman in Wyatt's film. In Wyatt's film, Franco appeared in a wistful video clip showing Caesar's childhood.

Chavarria is known for his roles in Chris Weitz's drama film "A Better Life," Rachel Howard's drama "Sins of the Father," and Carlos Portugal, Joe Menendez, and Carlos Reza's drama series "East Los High." Aside from Reeves' "War of the Planet of the Apes," the actor is set to be seen in Gabriel Cowan's drama "Los" and Ricardo de Montreuil's drama film "Low Riders."

With Reeves to direct, filming is set to commence in Vancouver in October. In addition, Mark Bomback and Pierre Boulle are on board to pen the film's screenplay, along with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa, Mary McLaglen, and Amanada Silver, who are set to co-produce the film.

The project is in its early phase of development at this point, so further details on other characters and cast members and plot twists are yet to be revealed.

Reeves' "War of the Planet of the Apes" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 14, 2017.
