"Sherlock" is all set to feature a one episode special before the actual release of Season 4. In this episode, Sherlock is a much nicer person before he turned into his cynical self.
This standalone episode will feature the Victorian era, according to iDigital Times. It will take back the fans to the original setting of the show, which is based on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories.
Steven Moffat told Entertainment Weekly that the reason they will release this special episode is that they wanted to showcase Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in their original costumes for once. Besides the backdrop and the setting, one major thing will also be quite different in the upcoming special episode.
The episode will showcase Sherlock as a nicer person and a proper polished Victorian gentleman. He will not behave like a brat and like his usual sarcastic self. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the lead in the show, could not be happier with this amazing idea.
He said that he is eagerly looking forward for the reactions from his fans about this different look. It is also rumored that Sherlock will sport a different sexual orientation in this special episode.
Cumberbatch also expressed concern that this nicer version of Sherlock, even though being a good change, might simply backfire if the fans don't like it. Sherlock's main USP is after all his personality, gaining him loyal fans all over the world. However, fans will just see it in one episode, so there should not be any cause of worry amongst them.
"Sherlock" Season 4 release is scheduled in early 2016. The special episode of the series is all set to air during the Christmas season.
