A rare cosmic event will take place on Aug. 29. The event known as supermoon is the first of its kind to appear in the sky this year.

According to Telegraph, the supermoon event on Aug. 29 will be the first of three events that will take place before the year ends. At around 2:35 P.M. EDT, the moon will be 222,631 miles close to the Earth, this is known as the perigee distance. This is the moon's closest approach to the planet this year.

The next supermoon event will take place on Sept. 28 and Oct. 27. Astronomers also said that a total lunar eclipse will take place during the early morning hours of Sept. 28 in Europe. This supermoon event is dubbed blood supermoon as the moon appears copper red as it passes through the shadow of Earth.

According to Discovery, a full moon occurs when the sun, moon, and Earth is lined up with Earth in the middle. During this rare cosmic events, when the moon's gravity has significant effect on the Earth's ocean tides. On the day of the perigee and three days afterwards, the Earth's ocean will have larger tides than usual.

While astronomers and scientists could not prove any relevance to the event, some people believe that the supermoon, especially the Blood Moon, is a sign of an impending apocalypse which will bring earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Astronomers agree that the only effect the supermoon will have on Earth is its unusually strong pull on the planet's ocean tide.
