Amazon recently announced that it will not release a successor device to the Fire Phone. The recent announcement was interpreted by many tech analysts as the company's way of waving the white flag in the smartphone market.

While the Amazon Kindle e-book reader along with the Kindle Fire table devices enjoys significant market success, the Amazon Fire Phone was drowned out by its contemporaries like the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The Amazon Fire Phone was launched in 2014 and fetched a price tag of $199 for the 32GB model which comes with an exclusive two-year contract with AT&T. According to Hot Hardware, the exclusive carrier deal with AT&T was a big mistake for Verizon. On the other hand, the 64GB Fire Phone model can be purchased off contract for $650.

According to Amazon, the unlocked version of the Fire Phone sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset with a 2.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of internal memory and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit. The smartphone has a 4.7-inch display with HD resolution of 720 x 1280. The smartphone has a 13-megapixel rear facing main camera equipped with optical image stabilization and LED flash.

Communication specs include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, GPS and near-field communication support. The Fire Phone has a 2400mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery which Amazon claim has a standby capacity of up to 285 hours and talk time of up to 22 hours.

Despite its interesting and high-end specs, the Fire Phone faced serious network compatibility issues. The device, despite being unlocked, does not support CDMA networks from Sprint and Verizon.
