Asus' new spiky router is claimed by the manufacturer to deliver the world's fastest Wi-Fi service, and challenges the Internet tech of companies such as Google. In fact, its speeds are reportedly about two-thirds faster than first-generation tri-band routers, and is supposedly the best option for online video games, 4K resolution-streaming, and smart home devices' networking,

The Chinese hardware and electronics company is also providing specifics about its ultra-fast Wi-Fi claim for its RT-AC5300 unit. It includes 1 Gigabits per second (Gbps) for connections higher than 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz), and a maximum of 2.167 Gbps on each of the pair of 5GHz bands, according to Engadget.

The new Asus product qualifies as a tri-band router due to its three Wi-Fi brands. In addition, it contains the newest Broadcom's Wi-Fi chip, according to CNET.

Consumers should keep in mind that the router's lightning-fast speed does not take into account the clients' Wi-Fi specifications. That includes the impact of devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Various other factors could slow down the wireless Internet connection. They include the geographic range, electrical interference, and software and hardware overheads.

That said, routers with sky-high Wi-Fi specs usually provide speedier real-world speeds. So the RT-AC5300 is certainly big news.

Asus' new router will be bundled with eight detachable antennas, which would set another world record for home routers. It also includes a pair of USB ports to host the 3.0 and 2.0 versions.

The Asus product could be the first AC-5300 retail router. It will ship out by the end of this year, and its rumored price point will be about $400.
