Acer's Revo Build Series is a set of PC parts that are stackable and snap together like Lego blocks, making the swapping of the modular computer's components and sections quick and easy. After the build-it-yourself pieces are assembled, the pieces create a fully-functional mini desktop.
The Revo was previously Acer's mini desktop. It functioned well as a small office PC or home movie theater.
However, the new Revo version includes a basic unit a little less than 5 inches (125mm) square. That includes the motherboard and CPU.
The separately-sold stacking units add other hardware features including hard drives and ports. Choosing the components is like ordering a Whopper.
When Acer launches the Revo Build Series it will include hard drive "blcnet
ocks." The do-it-yourself computer includes an Intel Pentium processor and Celeron CPUs, a maximum 8GB of RAM and 32GB of solid-state storage can be built into the computer base.
I/O devices are located on the unit's back and side. They include 3 USB ports, Ethernet, and a Secure Digital (SD) card slot, according to Wired.
Acer will later roll out other components including a microphone/speaker, and wireless charger, according to CNET. Other add-ons will include extra power, storage, and graphics.
A magnetic-electrical pin connection links the stacked blocks. In addition, a "Wireless Power Bank" will also keep the mini PC functioning without an electrical outlet.
The stackable PC resembles other products on the market. They include ones from Lenovo and Razer.
Acer's Revo Build Series will be available in Europe with a starting price at $233. No release date or price point for the United States' model has been announced.
