Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced on his Weibo account that they will releasing an improved version of Redmi 2 handset, stating that it will be identical to the previous model of the device. It will be called Redmi 2A.

Previous Redmi 2 version was launched back in March in China, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The new handset will sport similar design and look just like the Redmi 2. The upgraded Redmi 2A will go on sale starting this week and it will only be available in China as of now, according to GSM Arena. Chinese consumers can purchase Redmi 2A at $86.

The new Redmi 2A has now 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with 134.00 x 67.20 x 9.40 mm dimensions. It features Leadcore L1860C chipset 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with Mali T628 dual-core GPU and it is expected to run under MIUI 6.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop just like in the Redmi 2. It will feature 4.7-inch HD IPS display with 720 x 1280 screen resolution and a 312ppi. The internal storage is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.

The rear camera sports 8MP with f/2.2 lens, while its front-facing camera is 2MP. Its battery capacity is 2,200 mAh. Redmi 2A supports TDD-LTE Bands 38, 39, 40, and 41, dual-SIM functionality. The handset's wireless connectivity is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and wireless display functionality, alongside GPS/A-GPS, NDTV Gadgets reported. The handset is available in white, dark gray, bright yellow, light green and pink.

Meanwhile, the Chinese mobile vendor also launched its first 'Made in India' smartphone in August and manufacture by Foxconn India.
