"Luna Park" centers on a team of renegade employees who go to the moon to snip lunar energy. The film was about to push in 2011, with "Captain America" actor Chris Evans and "The Amazing Spider-Man" actor Andrew Garfield initially eyed to play the lead role. However, the production was stopped by Paramount due to a budget of more than $100 million.

It is not the first time Cruise and Liman developed a film together. They collaborated for the emergence of the crime thriller film "Mena," which follows a pilot landing work for the CIA and is set to be released in 2017. According to Cinema Blend, the thought that Cruise is interested to work with the filmmaker in another project is indicative of their good working relationship.

Since "Luna Park" is in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, the characters and cast, and the release date are yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Cruise is set to appear in Edward Zwick's action crime "Jack Reacher 2," Peter Craig and Justin Marks' action film "Top Gun 2," and his iconic film "Mission: Impossible 6."

The release dates for "Top Gun 2" and "Mission: Impossible 6" are yet to be revealed. Zwick's "Jack Reacher 2" is slated to premiere on Oct. 21, 2016 while Liman's "Mena" is set to hit theaters on Jan. 6, 2017.
