A recently leaked story claims that tech giant Sony is gearing up to release retro and classic PlayStation games to the PlayStation 4 console.

The leak was picked from the website of Pan European Game Information Board (PEGI). The rating board posted a list that includes classic PlayStation 2 titles such as "Ape Escape 2, "Dark Chronicle" known in the United States as "Dark Clouds 2" and "Twisted Metal: Black." The mentioned games have their ratings for the PlayStation 4 version posted on the website.

A PlayStation 3 version of the games mentioned is already available to be purchased at the PlayStation Now store. Additionally, the new list of ratings of the games' PlayStation 4 version means that the games are also coming to the newest console from Sony.

The three games were added into PEGI's "New Games" list. The PlayStation 4 console does not support backwards compatibility with any previous PlayStation consoles, either digitally or disc-based.

Tech news website Polygon asked Sony Computer Entertainment president Shehei Yoshida whether the company is now supporting backwards compatibility for the PlayStation 4 console to which Yoshida answered, "I don't think we will change our approach."

Yoshida said that the PlayStation Now service is expanding and is currently offering PlayStation 3 games for gamers to rent. The service is available for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 console as well as selected Sony and Samsung devices.

Yoshida added that implementing backwards compatibility is a hard work and the company should have already done it if it is easy. Industry experts are expecting Sony to add more information regarding this news in the upcoming Tokyo Game Show event.
